Evaluation of foreign educational qualifications: general provisions for all countries

Recognized secondary school leaving certificate

  • International Baccalaureat

with the following general educational subjects

  1. First language
  2. second language
  3. Mathematics (Higher Level / Standard Level)
  4. Natural sciences (biology, chemistry or physics)
  5. Humanities and social sciences (geography, history or economics (economics or business and management))
  6. freely selectable (a subject from category 2, 4 or 5 or computer science or philosophy. computer science and philosophy can only be selected as a 6th subject)

Language requirements and exams are reserved.

Admission requirements of the individual universities

EPFL

International Baccalaureate devant inclure les branches 1) mathématiques, 2) physique et 3) première langue modern au niveau HL (SL dans une branche de type "Language A" est also accepté pour la langue modern). Le total des points (sans les points de bonifications) doit être égal ou supérieur à 38 sur 42. Trois des branches supplémentaires suivantes doivent avoir été validées au niveau SL (ou HL): 1) mathématiques appliquées ou science informatique, 2) géographie générale , 3) histoire générale ou philosophie générale, 4) seconde langue moderne, 5) chimie ou biologie (Mathematics: Analysis and approaches et Mathematics: Applications and interpretation sont toutes les deux considérées comme des branches de mathématiques, et non comme des branches de mathématiques appliquées). Sinon: examen d'admission EPFL

ETHZ

Examination-free admission, provided the following conditions are met:

  1. 38 of 42 points (without bonus points);
  2. In the Higher Level (HL) the following subjects must have been completed: a) Mathematics or Further Mathematics, b) Physics or Chemistry or Biology, and c) A language A;
  3. In the Standard Level (SL), 3 further subjects from the following disciplines must have been completed: physics, chemistry, biology, geography, history, economics or business management, only 1 further language, computer science.

Otherwise: reduced ETH entrance exam

Basel

Recognized, provided that 32 of 42 points (without bonus points) and 6 subjects are shown in accordance with the above-mentioned canon of subjects. At least 3 subjects must be completed in the Higher Level (one of which is a mathematical and natural science subject)
At Electives also: Computer Science, Music, Philosophy, Psychology, Social Anthropology

Bern

Recognized, provided that 32 of 42 points (without bonus points) and 6 subjects are shown in accordance with the above-mentioned canon of subjects. At least 3 subjects must be completed in the Higher Level (one of which is a mathematical and natural science subject)

Recognized, provided that 32 of 42 points (without bonus points) and 6 subjects are shown in accordance with the above-mentioned canon of subjects. At least 3 subjects must be completed in the Higher Level (one of which is mathematics and science)
