Why don't you keep all photos

iCloud: Deactivate and delete photos - this is how it works

With the iPhone, you can take beautiful photos in any situation. So that you don't lose the pictures, recordings are saved in the iCloud. However, if the online storage is gradually full or if you want to prevent iPhone photos from being automatically saved in the iCloud, we will show you how to deactivate the synchronization of the images.

If you delete a picture from iCloud by default, the file will also be deleted from your iPhone. With the appropriate setting, however, you keep the pictures on your iPhone while you empty the cloud storage.

iCloud: Disable automatic photo saving

How to prevent new photos from the iPhone from being automatically saved in iCloud:

  1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
  2. Tap your name at the top.
  3. Call the section iCloud on.
  4. Under Apps that use iCloud select the entry Photos.
  5. Slide the slider down iCloud photos to the left. Photos and videos are no longer automatically backed up in the cloud.
  6. In addition, you deactivate the options In “My Photo Stream load and Shared albums.

Delete all photos from iCloud

If you want to delete the photos in the iCloud, you should make another setting on the iPhone to ensure that the original pictures are stored on the iPhone. Check the box for this Load and keep originals.

If, on the other hand, the Optimize iPhone storage setting is activated, the photos may be saved on the iPhone in poorer quality. Depending on how many auto-adjusted images are stored on the iOS device, it may take some time for the full resolution versions to be downloaded from iCloud.

To delete the photos from iCloud, do the following:

  1. Open the Settings app.
  2. Tap your name at the top.
  3. Switch to the area iCloud.
  4. Here you choose Manage storage out.
  5. In the Photos area, tap on Deactivate and delete.

This is how your iCloud will be emptied. If you need more space for online storage, you can find the iCloud costs in our overview. We'll also show you how to transfer pictures from iPhone to PC.
