Activity as a doctor's assistant
The doctor's assistant works in medical practices of various sizes, but not in dental practices, where training as a dental assistant is necessary. The medical assistants are responsible for caring for the patient from reception in the practice to treatment and follow-up care.

However, this is different in practices with a high throughput (paediatricians and specialists), here the doctor's assistant goes into the treatment room and supports the doctor with the examination. The salary as a medical assistant can vary widely. With a collective agreement, gross earnings of around EUR 1,700 to EUR 2,300 per month can be paid out.
Additional benefits such as company pension schemes or Christmas bonuses and vacation bonuses are not taken into account. Anyone who works in a special shift system in this job profile or is active in emergency clinics on the weekends can receive allowances.
Training as a doctor's assistant
The training to become a medical assistant is a dual vocational training according to the Vocational Training Act. It therefore naturally takes place in the training company, i.e. the doctor’s practice. The theoretical part is taught at the vocational school. The training lasts 3 years and ends with a final exam.
The contents of the training are very extensive and start with hygiene measures, through dealing with patients, through to taking blood. In practice, the trainees are instructed by the experienced medical assistants.

The main responsibility lies with the doctor, but the job is about people's lives, which is why a sense of responsibility is essential. Of course, in order to deal with patients and their problems, you need a command of the German language as well as sociability, calmness, patience and empathy.
Working under stress is not uncommon, and there may be differences depending on the practice and the vacancy. Organizational skills and the ability to concentrate on the job are very important when dealing with administrative work.
